Stick To WordPress Or Move To Squarespcae

August 16, 2009 zulughana 1 comment

OK, I have just been introduced to a site called Squarespace.

I dont know much about it, but what I do know is that it si similar to WordPress. The immediate visible difference is that you have to pay (on a monthly basis).
Yes, I know that WordPress is free, however, is there any reason why Squarespace charges and WordPress doesnt? For those of you out there already using Squarespace, and have used WordPress before, kindly fill me in on what the difference is.

What The Heck Is CLOUD COMPUTING..?

May 5, 2008 zulughana 1 comment

I was listening to a podcast on my iPOD when the presenter method “Cloud Computing”. Then I said to myself, hey wait a minute, isn’t this the same as “Client Server Computing”? Well isn’t it?. Ok so its probably another posh name for “Client Server Computing”.

So the definition of “Cloud Computing” is this:
Cloud computing is a computing paradigm in which tasks are assigned to a combination of connections, software and services accessed over a network. This network of servers and connections is collectively known as “the cloud.” Computing at the scale of the cloud allows users to access supercomputer-level power. Using a thin client or other access point, like an iPhone, BlackBerry or laptop, users can reach into the cloud for resources as they need them. For this reason, cloud computing has also been described as “on-demand computing.”

Get Digsby NOW..!

April 12, 2008 zulughana Leave a comment

Digsby is taking over the as the best IM on the internet. I came across it about a week ago. After a day of using it, i immediately uninstalled Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger. I am totally enjoying the product. I used to use Trillian, but one thing i noticed with that was whenever i tried sending a file to a friend who was using the Yahoo IM client, they couldnt receive it. I dont know what the situation stands now in that respect, but i carried a few tests sending files from my Digsby IM client to another person using Yahoo IM client, and it works like a treat.

Digsby IM Client

Features:

  • Support for multiple IM networks. Nothing new here. It supports Google, Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ICQ and Jabber.
  • Tabbed conversations. You can chat with multiple buddies with just one window.
  • If your buddy is on multiple IMs, you can merge their accounts into one in Digsby.
  • Your buddy has a weird number in his/her name? Give him an alias.
  • This is the best part. You can have Digsby minimized but new messages will popup and you can reply from within the popup and get back to what you were doing!
  • Setup various alerts for individual buddies like a sound and/or a popup when a friend logs in or logs out.
  • Video/Audio chat using TokBox

I will not say anymore. Download the program, and I will guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

Introducing MacBook Air. The world’s thinnest notebook

January 17, 2008 zulughana Leave a comment

There are few machines that can hold a candle to Apple’s new laptop, writes Claudine Beaumont

Apple’s newest laptop, the MacBook Air, has to be seen to be believed. It’s so thin that it almost disappears when you flip it on its side

But the Air is a real feat of engineering, too. Apple and its partners, including chip-maker Intel, have done an excellent job of miniaturising already microscopic components to make them fit into a laptop that measures just 0.76in (1.9?cm) at its thickest point. To do this without scrimping on screen or keyboard size is hugely impressive.

The Air may be waif-like, but it still feels substantial. The generous 13.3in widescreen is perfect for watching films, while the backlit keyboard is comfortable to use.

It may not be the touchscreen device some people were hoping for, but Apple does nod towards the world of gesture-control with a big multi-touch trackpad. It’s easy to configure to your individual specifications, and it quickly becomes second nature to use twisting, tapping and stroking movements on the oversize pad to rotate photos, move around web pages and zoom in and out.

Nother way that Apple has kept size and weight so low is to strip out the optical drive – the new “Remote Disc” feature, where you can “borrow” a CD drive on another networked machine to install software on your Air is an impressive touch, which other manufacturers will aim to copy.

Still, some people will want to play DVDs or burn CDs, so the additional inexpensive external optical drive is a worthwhile optional extra.

The Air is designed to be more of a second computer for “road warriors” than a main laptop, as the relatively small 80GB hard drive demonstrates. But at £1,199, portability comes at a price, especially when you consider that Asus’s portable notebook, the Eee PC, while not as well built, costs just £219.

Regardless, Apple surely has another hit on its hands, because in terms of looks and elegance, there are few machines that can hold a candle to the Air.

Alienware Monitor

Alienware Monitor

Alienware Monitor

Many uses come to mind when thinking of a curved, 2,880×900 resolution (16:5 aspect ratio) monitor – multitasking aside, we’d have quite a fun time opening every Photoshop panel simultaneously, or created the most complex, intricate World of Warcraft user interface imaginable. Alienware decided to show off its arcing display at CES with Crysis, the apparent benchmark for all technology of the future.

Our friends at Engadget who are attending the show noticed three faint vertical lines, indicating the curved illusion is assisted by four sub-panels. The DLP display with LED illumination is due out the second half of this year for a currently-unknown price.

I have been a frequent fan/visitor of this site for quite a while. I think some time back, it went down probabaly for “refurbishment” and came back up again. Anyway I would like to make mention of it here because I personally feel its a good site to get information on Windows XP and Windows Vista. You can also find other information on games as well. Anyway have a nose around and come back and tell me what you think.
